Back To School Kids Pick: Doris Thesaurus By Maria L. Corkern

 Review By Amie Breeze Harper

Maria L. Corkern's book Doris Thesaurus (AuthorHouse/ 2008) is a concise and fun-filled adventure of how elementary school-aged children can become familiar with the benefits of the thesaurus. When elementary school child, Sara, needs help with her writing, she is introduced to the dinosaur named Doris who is holding a thesaurus.

The underlying theme of the book is to let children know that writing can be even more fun, once they figure out synonyms which allow them to better express their ideas. At the end of the book, Corkern has written a couple pages that give the reader clear examples of what they will find in a thesaurus. With very colorful pictures and a cute vibrant green dinosaur character, Doris Thesaurus is a fun way for parents and teachers to entice young children into the world of writing.

Perhaps Corkern will write more books for children that help them with their writing, reading, and grammar skills.

Thanks for the great review. Yes, I have recently finished writing another children's book and have sent out the manuscript to publishers.

Great! I read Doris to my 5 month old son again, the other day. I guess he's not too young, as he enjoyed the pictures very much.
