Save Money on Fancy Beauty Treatments – Beauty Tips That Work with Produce
According to the Economic Research Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture, “Estimating and Addressing America’s Food Losses,” 48 million tons of food is thrown away in the U.S. In addition, Goldman Sachs estimated that globally, $24 billion dollars are spent yearly on make-up with an additional $18 billion dollars a year on hair care products. That’s $42 billion dollars a year, not counting spa treatments and facials!
How can you save on beauty treatments that work and avoid throwing the money you’ve spent on unused produce away? By using the produce on beauty treatments. Here are a few tips that I have used and work for me.*
The following easy recipes are ready to whip up in minutes and help give your skin and or hair a silky smooth texture.
Apricot Facial / Exfoliate
Mash apricots into a paste and mix in coarse salt or baking soda and a ½ tsp of honey (optional). Gently rub the mixture onto your face (very gently as the salt will scratch your skin if you aren’t gentle.) Rinse off with warm water.
Apricot Mask / Moisturizer
Mash apricots into a paste and mix in 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of olive oil. Gently put onto your face and neck. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse off with warm water.
Avocado Mask / Moisturizer
Mash an avocado with 1 tsp honey and 1 tsp of olive oil. Leave on face, neck or body for 20 minutes. Take a nice warm shower and rinse.
Avocado Hair Rinse
Mash an avocado with honey and put in your hair after you shampoo. Leave in for five minutes and rinse during the rest of your shower. Silky smooth hair can be yours!
Banana Mask / Moisturizer
Make a paste with an old banana using honey and olive oil to consistency desired (you want a paste that will stick). Put on face and neck and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water. This can also be used in your hair. Just shampoo and condition as usual after leaving it in for 10 minutes.
Citrus Honey Facial / Exfoliate
Squeeze the juice of a lemon, lime or any citrus fruit and mix with 2 tsp honey and ½ tsp coarse salt. Gently rub the mixture onto your face (very gently as the salt will scratch your skin if you aren’t gentle.) Rinse off with warm water.
Cucumber Cooler
Mash a cucumber with honey to desired consistency and put on face and neck for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
Oatmeal Mask / Moisturizer
Make a paste of oatmeal (do not use hot water, only warm). Add 1 tsp honey or 1 tsp olive oil and rub onto face and neck for 10 minutes. Gently peel the mask off with your fingertips and then rinse with warm water.
Pineapple Honey Facial / Exfoliate
Mash pineapple and mix with 2 tsp honey and ½ tsp coarse salt. Gently rub the mixture onto your face (very gently as the salt will scratch your skin if you aren’t gentle.) Rinse off with warm water.
Vinegar Rinse
Use apple cider vinegar to rinse your hair after you condition. You hair will have added shine and softness and don’t worry; you won’t smell like salad dressing!
*Do not use all the treatments every day. Pick one you would like to try and use it once or twice a week at most. Do not use any of these treatments without checking with your doctor first to make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients in these mixtures.
