H1N1: A Pharmacist's Natural Immunity Boosters Against The Swine Flu

Suzy Cohen--
Dear Readers: With all the news about Swine Flu, I’d like to address the best ways to help keep your immune system strong. I’m not overjoyed at the prospect of millions of you getting shot with vaccinations that have been hurriedly tested, so I’d rather give you a list of natural ways to boost immunity to swine flu and other bad bugs:
Rainbow Diet- Stop cooking your vegetables to death because that destroys all the precious enzymes and nutrients. Eat a rainbow of fresh organic fruits and veggies like blueberries, red tomatoes, green asparagus, orange acorn squash and other related natural immune-boosting marvels.
Sleep- You need 7 to 8 hours of refreshing sleep every night. Forcing your body to sleep with sleeping pills does not count. Retrain your body to sleep properly and if you need assistance, ask your doctor about taking supplements of GABA or melatonin because those replenish what your brain naturally makes.
Oils- Use only healthy fats such as grape seed oil, coconut oil, olive oil and flaxseed oil. No more margarine or other forms of trans fats that clog up your arteries. And take 1,000 mg omega 3 fish oil daily.
Vitamin D- You can get it from the sun for free. Get 15 minutes of sun exposure daily when the sun is not at it’s peak; don’t use sunscreen. If you’d rather supplement, take vitamin D3 a.k.a. cholecalciferol. Studies show that vitamin D dramatically reduces your risk for cancer and infection. Dose: 2,000 - 5,000 IU daily.
Colloidal Silver- It’s a gold standard in my book because it kills a lot of bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms. Colloidal silver is sold at health food stores and it’s what we used for decades until the advent of penicillin and other newer antibiotics.
Garlic and Onions- They contain antibacterial substances that help you defend yourself.
Vitamin E- A powerful antioxidant, take 400 - 800 IU daily, natural “mixed” tocopherols.
Glutathione or PectaSol Chelation Complex (PCC)- These are two different supplements that you can buy at health food stores and online to detoxify your body. They eliminate dangerous metals, pesticides and poisons --the same poisons that weaken your immune system and make you more susceptible to infection. Glutathione is found in avocados and PCC is made from citrus rind.
Olive Leaf Extract and Pau D’Arco- Two natural herbs that help kill dangerous germs.
Pomegranate or Cranberry Juice- If it’s 100 percent juice (and not loaded with high fructose corn syrup) then yes. Red berry drinks offer you powerful antioxidants.
Diet- Avoid substances that tax your immune system or create allergies. Many people find they feel better without wheat (gluten), dairy (casein), soy, corn, white sugar, white flour, artificial sweeteners, MSG and iodized table salt.
The Obvious- exercise to lose weight and drink fresh filtered water!
Swine flu vaccine- There isn’t one yet, but when it is developed I won’t be standing in line for it. Should you? That’s a very personal decision.

As a vegan, I also appreciate your emphasis on consuming rainbow foods and avoiding dairy.
I just bought some colloidal silver and a vitamin D supplement (D2) from Whole Foods last night, and already have some natural liquid anti-virals ready if I need them. Now if only I could sleep 7-8 hours as you suggest, melatonin doesn't work for me. :-(
There exists, a very effective means of stopping a pandemic in its tracks. The FDA knows about it. The CDC knows about it and uses it regularly. I am talking about Chlorine Dioxide. Safe for human consumption as Sodium Chlorite, activated with food acid (citric acid). It has long been used to clean up environmental hazards, as it kill virtually everything that is harmful to humans. When ingested, it kills all positively charged pathogens. Put another way, it kills every pathogen that is harmful to the human body. I personally would say it is Colloidal Silver on Steroids. It was discovered by a gold chemist about ten years ago, as a cure for malaria. He has documented over 100,000 cures of malaria. Along the way, it quickly became apparent, that it also killed bacterial and viral infections of all kinds. It would be wise to learn as much as you can about MMS, and promote this, as something that should be in the medicine chest of every American. Nutritional supplementation, for the average American, will help create a stronger immune system. However, only "optimal" immune systems are going to survive a pandemic. It would not be fair to leave everyone else at bay. Use this link as a launchpad to your education on MMS: antisuppression.org/WordPress/category/topics/longevity/mms-longevity/
Thank you for your time, and keep up the flow of this needed information.

Thanks for a very helpful roundup of ways to boost immunity. Lots of good common sense, and things we can all do now to help ourselves rather than wait to see if we get sick or not.
You mention glutathione is very good for boosting immunity. This has been proven in countless medical studies. However, the best way to raise glutathione is not by eating foods with glutathione, because it is destroyed in the gut. You have to take the precursors and manufacture it in your body.
The two best studied ways for raising glutathione or GSH are with forms of bioavailable cysteine- the pharmaceutical drug N Acetyl-Cysteine , used in emergency medicine for years for acetaminophen overdose, and the nutraceutical Immunocal that uses bonded cysteine, like is found in mother's breast milk for baby.
You can learn more about glutathione and how to raise it here:
