Guest Blogger Tosca Reno--
With obesity rates skyrocketing these days it’s no wonder we’re hearing more and more about juvenile diabetes epidemics, changing ride weight limits at Disney World, ever expanding pant sizes, and teenage heart attacks, amongst other things. Things are out of control. Whatever happened to the days of literally dragging your kids inside after a day spent running around? Now we’re literally dragging our kids away from the television and computer. Increasingly sedentary lives are taking over. Don’t you feel your backside is taking the shape of the couch or computer chair some days? This has to stop somewhere; otherwise we will have not have a future generation to pass our Earth to.
Guess what moms and dads? You are in control. It’s your responsibility to set an example for your children and guide them into a lifestyle of proper nutrition and daily activity. After all, if you’re not doing it why should they? When I first began my journey into Clean Eating, my kids looked at me as if I had 12 heads. They were certainly used to complete meals, but processed and refined foods, including ice cream, chips, and cookies, as well as decadent Martha Stewart-esque desserts were a daily occurrence in my household. When those things left and were replaced with things like whole-wheat bread, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal, they were a little miffed. But I had made a decision that that was the way it was going to be. If they didn’t like the new variety of foods placed on the table, well, then they were going hungry for the night. I certainly was not going to stand there and cook another meal. No one has time for that!
This tip, along with many others is the focus of my next book, The Eat-Clean Diet for Family and Kids. It’s about time that we understand the trouble facing us as parents and consumers. I’ve sprinkled the book with easy-to-understand information, such as, how to read a nutrition label, how to Clean Up a birthday party, and how to navigate the cereal aisle. Did you know that a bowl of Froot Loops for breakfast would be the same as eating a Mars bar? Kind of a shock isn’t it?
Keep your eyes peeled for new video clips of me doing my Clean Eating thing, appearances, book tours and TV appearances. I am bringing the personal touch to Clean Eating and you will discover it soon at www.eatcleandiet.com and www.toscareno.com.
