Type the words “fat loss” into Amazon.com and you’ll be blessed with over 3,000 diet books to choose from! Come on; fess up. How many do you personally own? 1,000? 2,000? All 3,000?
Code-Cracker: 33 percent of Americans – some 71 million people – are on a diet. |
Why are so many people failing on their diets? Most people fail to lose weight in this fast-paced, confusing climate of “over information” because so many programs offered today are impractical, costly and too difficult to sustain.
Did you know that 66 % of American adults are considered “overweight?” This trend grows steadily every year because conventional dieting methods simply don’t work. In fact, rather than losing weight, the average American continues to gain 1 to 2 pounds a year according to the American Heart Association.
Books, diets, talk show health gurus, websites, infomercials – clearly, there is no lack of diet and weight loss information out there for you to choose from. But which is the best choice for you? And, when you make it, will your diet book of choice contain all the parts of the code?
This year’s January-February “diet gold rush” included such recent bestsellers as The Best Life Diet by Bob Greene ( Simon & Schuster ), The Gold Coast Cure’s Fitter - Firmer - Faster Program by Andrew and Ivy Larson ( HCI ), The Good Mood Diet by Susan Kleiner ( Springboard Press ) and The Skinny by Melissa Clark and Robin Aronson ( Meredith Books ).
Of course, there will always be the gold standard for diet books, titles like Atkins, South Beach, Sugar Busters and Body for Life. These perennial bestsellers have managed to capture the public’s attention – and stayed there – thanks in large part to the fact that each contains some piece of the Fat Loss puzzle. As such they often work to create Fat Loss in the short-term, but how long do they last? Chances are, not very.
“Amy” wrote to me not long ago to express her frustration with the “diet book bonanza,” and how it left her feeling frustrated, miserable and heavier than ever. “I have to admit,” she wrote, “I was clueless. Diets in the past for me consisted of consuming less than 100 kcal and 10 g of fat a day, as well as endless hours of cardio. It worked for a while, and then I hit the wall. My weight didn’t go anywhere for a while and then it started going up. I started giving up. I was tired and cranky and always hungry. And when I didn’t have my afternoon fix of chocolate, I started going through the shakes (time for Chocoholics Anonymous).”
After learning to Crack the Fat Loss Code, however, “Amy” was like a new person. She explained, “I learned how to eat properly, feeding my body every three to four hours. The first three days of carb deplete were rough but on day four all of a sudden I felt good – real good. I felt like I had a lot of energy and that afternoon chocolate craving went away. My weight started dropping, more the first week, but then my body started changing. All of a sudden I could breathe in my clothes again, and then they were getting loose. I wasn’t suffering at all like I used to on a diet. I really didn’t miss eating all the foods I used to crave.”
I think we all have a little “Amy” inside of us. We’ve all been deceived by the popular media and what they hold out to be the latest fad, crack or quack diet. Don’t be fooled! Die-ts aren’t the answer; Live-ts are! When you discover the code, you can finally live again. Your clothes will fit better, you’ll be able to “breathe” in them again; figuratively and literally. Now it’s time to “breathe” new life into your diet plateau and finally learn to Crack the Fat Loss Code.
