Health Care Trend 2010: CAM's Aromatherapy With Conventional Medicine

By Kelly Jad'on

MADE IN USA

Anesthesiologist and aromatherapist, James "Tad" Geiger has written an innovative book-- The Sweet Smell of Success.  Known as the OilMD, Dr. Geiger seeks to relate to the general public, his unique perspective of the benefits of essential oil in the healing of the body.  In fact he writes, "Consider food and essential oils as 'nutritional medicine.'  These natural wonders have great potential to enhance and humanize health care when combined with the practice of conventional medicine."

As medicine moves into the next decade, so does the wellness revolution, which primarily is returning us to  our roots, both figuratively and literally.

Basing his book on actual scientific studies, Geiger demonstrates the effectiveness of aromatherapy for common ailments and medical conditions.  Geiger advocates the usage of nutritional medicine and complementary alternative medicine (CAM) in acute and chronic care hospitals.

Dr. Geiger also represents OilMD, essential oils mixed and sold to the general public for specific uses.  "Unlike medications...acquired tolerance to narcotic drugs to produce pain relief does not occur with essential oils."  Essential oils can be used in foods as flavorings and as fragrances.  My personal favorite is Well Balanced Lady--containing Jojoba oil and a blend of sandalwood, orange, jasmine, clary sage, yarrow, tanacetum and ylang ylang.  This mixture smells heavenly and can even be mixed in body lotion or massaged into the pulse points--safely. (This product wa provided by the OilMD to the reviewer.)

Another fascinating oil comes from ginger.  It's used by Dr. Geiger's patients to reduce common side effects of medical and dental procedures…….nausea, gagging, headaches and anxiety.

Features and Benefits of GingerMD™

- is a safe and effective nausea prevention using therapeutic grade 10% essential oil of ginger.
- is affordable with NO side effects as compared to anti-nausea medications.
- is a convenient treatment to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting, (PONV)
caused by anesthesia gas and analgesic narcotics used in both dental and general surgery.
- is a treatment for motion sickness and sea sickness.
- inhibits the gag reflex
- is safe in pregnancy as an effective anti-emetic.
- is a known Ayurvedic treatment for headaches and migraines.
- anti-anxiety – enables patient to be in a calm state during procedures.
- scavenges free radicals by increasing oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC).

In addition, ginger is being used in the treatment of ovarian cancer cells.

Botanical wellness--safe, effective, and sweet.  Incredible and tantalizing thoughts become reality--the OilMD  5 Stars

I've heard aromatherapy is usually used for treating mind diseases like schizophrenia and paranoia; it makes perfect sense to use this kind of approach in psychiatric clinics.
